ECDL - The European Computer Driving Licence

ECDL was established in 1997 and is an internationally recognised qualification, which aims to benchmark IT competency throughout the world and can simplify employment procedures. It certifies that the holder has knowledge of the basic concepts of Information Technology (IT) and has the ability to use a personal computer with common computer applications to a basic level of competency.

The ECDL aims to promote and encourage computer literacy to all citizens throughout Europe and internationally, regardless of their background. By developing awareness of IT, users will understand the advantages of using PC's, how their productivity and the accuracy of their work can be increased, and how this knowledge can help them to actively participate in the Information Society.

It is suitable for people of all ages, for those about to enter the job market and those who wish to develop new skills, update existing ones or obtain formal recognition of their practical abilities, in all working environments.

The ECDL Syllabus consists of seven modules;

  • Concepts of Information Technology
  • Using the Computer and Managing Files
  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Presentations
  • Information and Communication
